Caravela, located in the heart of Tarrytown,
opened in March of 1986. Named after a revolutionary 15th
century sailing ship, it led the way in an era of
exploration and has been inevitably linked with the great
age of discovery.
Steering the culinary charge, Caravela restaurant is
recognized as a pioneer, being the first to introduce
Portuguese cuisine to the Hudson Valley. The menu reflects
the true tradition of this time-honored cuisine as well as
offering innovative variations on classics. A symphony of
Portuguese & Brazilian nuances play with other Mediterranean
influences to compose robust dishes that are fresh, simply
prepared and beautifully presented. In essence, a focus to
revitalize the fundamental foundations of ethnicity while
preserving roots, celebrating culture and savoring flavors
from Portugal and Brazil.
Caravela captures the intimate, gracious Old-World ambiance
through its rustic yet elegantly inspired recurring nautical
motif design, enhanced by pretty handpainted Portuguese
ceramics. An eclectic decor mingles light and dark wood
planks with warm earth tones creating a stylish yet
sophisticated setting. Adorning the walls, is an
unreplicable, original cork wallpaper imported from Portugal
exclusively for Caravela with murals created by authentic
Portuguese tiles or (azulejos.) |
